Can I Just Say Thank You?

A friend sent me this link on Facebook today.  http://jezebel.com/5874927/i-guess-i-forgot-to-wean-my-baby   I read the article and laughed a little.  I just took it at face value and didn't read any further into it.  So then I thought, 'Hey, maybe I will leave a nice little comment giving reassurance or some humor.'  Kind of like we all (you that are reading this) have been doing since we met on NaBloPoMo.  Helpful, happy, positive, uplifting, supportive comments.  Boy was I in for a sickening featured comment ride.  How are people so mean?  What is it about the anonymity of the Internet that just makes people more ignorant, rude and downright awful to one another?  How did a harmless article about weaning turn into an insult-slinging soapbox on vaccines?  Crazy pants, all of them.  With not nice manners and even worse attitudes.  Judgy Judgers...  Urg.  It kind of ticked me off, and I almost wanted to l...

One Overwhelmed Woman

First of all, I have to share this link because I love it so much... Courtney Snailum   A few years back, almost three I guess, I did a Proverbs 31 study.  That is a woman that no one will ever be.  Supermom on crack.  Courtney does such a good job of lightheartedly rephrasing that scripture to fit the "average" mom.  But the real reason I am writing this morning is because I went to bed too late last night and got up too early for my liking but too late if I am going to finish everything on my to do list.  My children arose before me and fended for their own breakfast (which made me think of Proverbs 32!). I like to make lists.  I like to check off the things I have done.  Unfortunately, by the time I go back to my list again, the thing I have done and want to check off needs done again! Today I am cleaning and packing and jamming and pickling and meal planning for my family for the week.  I am also (obviously) blogging and Facebooking an...

Sports Schmorts

On our way to our dentist and eye doctor appointments earlier this week, the kids and I got on the topic of school and sports.  Connor asked me if he could play football this year, and I said, "Not until 3rd grade, bud."  Well, this proceeded to break his heart, just like it does most of the time right around the different sports sign-up times.  And we had a long, drawn-out conversation where he cried and I apologized and tried to help him understand my point of view.  Every season, we seem to have the same conversation, and it gets longer and more dramatic the older he gets.  At the beginning of preschool, I set up a "rule" (like I think most parents do with their kids, especially their first-born kids). The rule is: No sports until 3rd grade, and then only one (or a max of two if Dad undermines me). The first-born rule I remember my mom had for me was about ear piercing.  She said not until I was 16.  Well, through man...
