Behind the Scenes: The Dreaded Park

WHAT IS THE "BEHIND THE SCENES" LINK UP?

"Behind the Scenes" is a fun link up where we show those photos - but tell the real story behind them. The sneak peek behind the scenes, a look past the edges of the photo to the real life behind it. Read more here!

This is my first link up with Crystal, and I am really excited about it!

My youngest (and only) girl at just over two years old.  Cute huh?

That day, we were running errands in town and I had promised the kids that I would take them to the "castle" park.  Of course, it happened to be a day when there were too many kids around, and I was alone with all three of my own.

This park is my dreaded nightmare park.

  • One, there are too many places to lose sight of your kid.  I like parks with swings, maybe a slide, maybe some monkey bars.  I don't like parks with houses and towers and multiple play buildings.  What happened to the days when kids played on trees?
  • Two, the darn wood chips stick to everything.
  • Three, it's too close to sketchy recreational areas.  Which leads me back to the losing sight of your kid part.
So, this is an adorable picture of my two year old princess.  Smiling, wearing the tiara I had just bought for her at JoAnn Fabrics.  I probably posted it to Facebook for some comments.

What I didn't post was the knot I had in my stomach the majority of the time that the kids were playing.  I was flicking through pictures to decide which one to post, and when I saw this picture the feeling rushed back.  It was a pang of missing my baby and fearing for her to grow up.  That joy and sadness that moms feel about their babies growing up and becoming independent.  Some of you know the feeling... Part of me rejoices and part of me mourns.

Those were the feelings I battled that day.  Watching her play on the toys by herself.  Nervously keeping an eye out for her brothers while I stayed as close to Leilee as she would let me.

Now my baby is four.  She is even more stubbornly independent and beautiful.  Fiery and tough like Merida.  I haven't had a day like that for awhile, but I'm sure there are more to come.

    1. You are SO not alone! Even though it drives me crazy sometimes, I hope and pray she stays stubborn and independent... :)
