Can I Just Say Thank You?

A friend sent me this link on Facebook today.

http://jezebel.com/5874927/i-guess-i-forgot-to-wean-my-baby

I read the article and laughed a little.  I just took it at face value and didn't read any further into it.

So then I thought, 'Hey, maybe I will leave a nice little comment giving reassurance or some humor.'  Kind of like we all (you that are reading this) have been doing since we met on NaBloPoMo.  Helpful, happy, positive, uplifting, supportive comments.

Boy was I in for a sickening featured comment ride.  How are people so mean?  What is it about the anonymity of the Internet that just makes people more ignorant, rude and downright awful to one another?  How did a harmless article about weaning turn into an insult-slinging soapbox on vaccines?  Crazy pants, all of them.  With not nice manners and even worse attitudes.  Judgy Judgers...  Urg.  It kind of ticked me off, and I almost wanted to leave a comment about how off track and mean they were... but I was way too scared.  What if they turned on me?  I am a cyberspace coward, I guess.

I am so thankful for the great group of people that I have met who read my blog posts and leave me with nice things.  I am not against constructive criticism.  I can't say I handle it really well... but if I say something that is not at all factual or is potentially truly hurtful or if I have left a glaring typo for all to see, please let me know.  This is probably also proof that I can't handle the spotlight.  It shines too brightly and might show all my flaws.  If I had a whole bunch of readers, then some of those people might say mean things about me.

So, the point of this is thank you.  If you have left me a nice comment, thank you.  If you have wanted to say something mean in a comment because I irritated you and you didn't because you have self-control and manners and haven't let the anonymity of the Internet turn you into an awful person, again.... Thank you!!  I just don't think I could handle that kind of pressure.

And, if you nursedor are nursing your kids... click the link and read the article.  I thought it was funny and harmless.  But avoid the comments.  They are just mean.

Comments

  1. I don't get the reason behind mean comments. It seems so unnecessary. I think those people must be so miserable in their own lives, they feel the need to spread it around.

    1. You are right. It's unnecessary. The unhappiest people say the meanest things!

  2. I totally agree with Jewels--anyone leaving a mean comment is really saying way more about themselves than they are about whatever the topic is supposed to be.

I read the nursing article--and skimmed a few of the comments, even though you warned me not to. UGH.
