The Gift of a Pass

I have to pass tonight.  I know there isn't technically a "pass" in blogging, but it's just not working out for me.  I have two posts in draft form, both of which I was thinking would be great for tonight, but I can't get the links I want because the internet keeps freezing on me.  And my kids are up ridiculously late and having a hard time falling asleep.  Jason is visiting with his grandparents, as he should be, so I am downstairs trying to whip this pass post out before it all freezes again and get the kids a snoozing.

Anyway.  Sorry.  Pass.

Haha - a funny by the way.  I didn't even know that Disney had a made a So Random show out of the So Random that they did on Sonny with a Chance.  Yes, I am a grown woman who watches these kids' shows with her kids from time to time... and enjoys them usually.  Sad, I know.

Back to my first aside.  This morning, they had a So Random skit about Magical Teenage Literary Character Wheel of Fortune week, starring Harry Potter, Hagrid, Gollum/Smeagle, and Bella and Jacob (and Edward, of course) playing against each other.  The whole joke was that they couldn't solve a phrase that was missing only one letter.  But when it came to Bella's turn, she said, "I pass."  She couldn't make up her mind.  The game show host said, "But you can't pass on Wheel of Fortune."  Then, they all started passing, and then Jacob took off his shirt for no reason (with a huge fake muscle suit on underneath), which you can't do on Wheel of Fortune either. 

Totally ridiculous and random, but when I thought, 'I am just going to have to pass for tonight.' I instantly thought of that skit and chuckled to myself.

So, pass.  And I apologize for no cute links to Disney or So Random or any of that.  It will all freeze if I dare.

    It's so funny that you posted this--I was JUST randomly quoting an episode of Keenan & Kel which was on Nickeloden when my kids were younger ("I dropped the scew in the tuna!"). There's a surprising amount of humor, intelligence and talent tucked into some of those "kid's" shows.

    Here is what kind of a dork I really am: when I was quoting the show earlier, I said, "I PUT the screw in the tuna." Then before I posted the above comment, I double checked the quote and in the first link that popped on up on google, it said "dropped." So I wrote dropped. Then I went BACK to google and there are WAY more votes for "put" than "dropped." That's all dorky enough--but I was about to delete that comment above and replace "dropped" with "put."

    I settled for leaving this ridiculously dorky comment instead. :)

Despicable Shadow Puppets

We watched Despicable Me today.  At the end, when they do the shadow puppets I had an idea.  I remember when I was little that my mom went through this silhouette phase in her artwork and made us kids pose for silhouettes.  I didn't like my own silhouette, even as a child. Peanut Butter and Bananas

Growing up, my favorite sandwich in the world (when it came to peanut butter at least), was a peanut butter and brown sugar sandwich.  Crunchy peanut butter made it better.  My best friend's favorite sandwich was peanut butter, banana, and honey. "Gross!" I said. "Gross!" she said.  We both agreed that we wouldn't know until we tried it.  So, one day in her kitchen, we made our favorite sandwiches.  She sliced her bananas as I wrinkled up my nose.  I sprinkled brown sugar as she looked nervously at me from the corner of her eye.  We presented one another with our beloved sandwiches.  We had to try.  To understand one another a little better.  Just one bite... Things My Kids Say... Ready to Cry/Laugh/Groan a Little?

When we were young, my mom had a notebook that she used to record all of the cute and funny things we said.  Of course, she was a single mom of four kids under the age of 6, so there were very few things that actually got recorded.  We cherished that book... each of us had a few written memories, and we would read and reread them to one another.  So, when my kids were born, I got each of them a book.  My intentions were just as good as my mother's... but their books are mostly empty.  I've ended up using Facebook and blog posts more often than pen and paper.  I even got desperate in the car one day and voice recorded a few priceless events.  Here are a few that happened over the last month: We all rush in to the awards night for our Olympic Weight Loss Challenge.  The room is packed, auditorium style.  I have Leilee on my lap.  Jason has the boys on his.  They call up each contestant, say the percentage of weight they lost, hand them their card and check, exchange a hands
